When people see My Salah Mat today, they may see a global Islamic learning brand, children using the Interactive Prayer Mat, families sharing their reviews, or products being used in homes across different countries.
But before all those lights, behind the brand is a very simple beginning.
My Salah Mat started with Kamal Ali, a Muslim father, product designer and former teacher from Newport, Wales, noticing that his young son was struggling with sujood during prayer. His son was not placing his hands, knees, toes, forehead and nose correctly, and words alone were not enough to help him understand.
Kamal wanted to create something visual and simple. Something that could show a child where to place each part of the body during Salah.

At first, the idea was not even meant to be interactive. It began as a printed prayer mat with clear body-position guides. But when the first prototype arrived, Kamal looked at the marked positions and thought, what if a child press a point and hear the guidance? It turned out that moment changed the direction of the product.
A Product Created to Help Muslims Learn With Confidence
Kamal’s background in product design and teaching shaped the way he developed My Salah Mat. In education, different learners need different tools. Some children learn by seeing, listening, or through movement, repetition and practice.
That understanding became part of the Interactive Prayer Mat. It was not created simply to look different. It was designed to guide children through Salah in a way they could see, hear and follow.
As the product developed, it grew beyond body positions. It began to include the wider journey of prayer, from Wudu and Adhan to Qiblah, intention, takbeer, recitation, ruku, sujood, tashahhud, salawat and du’a.

The purpose was never to replace parents, teachers or Islamic learning. It was to give families another form of support, especially at home, where many children take their first steps in learning Salah.
Over time, that same purpose reached beyond children. Families began asking My Salah Mat to create a version for adults and reverts. Kamal later reflected on what happens after someone takes Shahada. There is happiness, support and hugs, but then the new Muslim is often faced with a huge amount to learn.
Salah can feel overwhelming for reverts on the first days, they may want to pray straight away, but feel unsure about the steps, the Arabic, the movements and the order of prayer. The Adult Interactive Prayer Mat was created to support that journey privately, gently and without judgement.

This is where My Salah Mat’s purpose became even clearer. The brand was not only helping children begin Salah. It was helping new Muslims, returning Muslims and adults who may have felt too embarrassed to ask for help.
From One Home in Wales to Families Around the World
The journey from one idea at home to a global brand was not instant. The first product launched in 2018, after years of development, testing, design work and manufacturing challenges. The response came quickly, with strong early demand and later viral growth across social media.
Today, My Salah Mat has reached families in more than 40 countries, and its prayer mats have supported more than 100,000 people around the world in learning or continuing their Salah.

For Kamal, this impact means more than numbers. It represents children becoming familiar with prayer, reverts finding confidence, adults returning to Salah and families bringing Islamic learning into their homes.
The journey has also brought challenges. After the product went viral, counterfeit versions began appearing online. Some copied the design, layout, packaging, images and even the brand name. For a small business, this was not only frustrating but also affected trust. Some customers thought they were buying the original product, but received cheaper copies with poorer materials, unreliable electronics or missing features.

My Salah Mat continued to protect the original invention through patents, trade marks, registered designs, safety checks, Islamic content review, translations, quality control and customer support. For Kamal, protecting the product was also about protecting the families who trusted it.
At the heart of the brand is a belief that business can carry purpose. Of course, a business must survive, pay its team, manufacture products and continue developing. But My Salah Mat was never built only for sales. It was built around benefit.
Every child who learns to pray, every revert who feels less alone, every adult who gains confidence and every family that brings Salah into the home becomes part of that wider purpose.
That is why Kamal sees My Salah Mat as something connected to Sadaqah Jariyah. The hope is that the products continue to benefit people long after the first idea was drawn.

From one father trying to help his son came a product. From that product came a mission. And from that mission, My Salah Mat continues to help Muslims around the world learn, practise and stay close to Salah with confidence.
