For many new Muslims, learning how to pray can feel daunting at first. Isha prayer, performed at night, has four raka’at (units of prayer) and includes both silent and audible recitation. For beginners, understanding the structure and order is key, and with the right support it becomes simple to learn.

Watch the Full Video Demonstration

We’ve created a complete video demonstration of Isha prayer using the Interactive Adult Prayer Mat. In the video, you’ll see how the lights guide each movement, how the translation helps you understand the words, and how simple it is to follow step by step.

Why is Isha an important prayer?

Isha is the final prayer of the day and marks the close of daily worship. It’s prayed after the darkness of night sets in, a reminder of reflection and protection before rest. For beginners, mastering Isha builds confidence in prayer structure, since it includes four raka’at and combines both silent and out-loud recitation.

Step-by-Step Guide to Isha Prayer

1. Niyyah (Intention): Face the Qiblah and intend to pray Isha.

2. Takbir: Raise your hands and say “Allahu Akbar.”

3. First Rak’ah:

  • Recite Surah Al-Fatihah.
  • Follow with another Surah (start with Surah Al-Ikhlas if you are a beginner).
  • Complete ruku (bowing) and sujood (prostration).

3. Second Rak’ah:

    • Recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another Surah.
    • At the end, sit for tashahhud (the sitting supplication).

4. Third Rak’ah:

    • Recite Surah Al-Fatihah only.
    • Perform ruku and sujood.

5. Fourth Rak’ah:

  • Recite Surah Al-Fatihah only.
  • Complete the tashahhud and end with salams on both sides.
  • Two raka’at are recited aloud, while the last two are prayed silently.
