3 Duas You Can Make for Your Child Before They Are Born
Alhamdulillah parenthood is a journey that begins even before a child is born. It's a time of hope, anticipation, and prayer. For expecting parents, turning to Allah will offer comfort and a deep connection to the coming child. Here are three beautiful duas – or prayers – that you can recite for your child before their arrival into this world Insha'Allah.
1. Dua of Prophet Ibrahim (AS)
As a beacon of faith, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) set an example with his heartfelt prayers. One that resonates deeply with parents is his plea for righteous offspring:
"Rabbi hab li mina as-salihin."
Translated, it reads:
"My Lord! Bless me with righteous offspring" (Qur'an 37:100).
The simplicity and sincerity in this dua capture the essence of a parent's wish – for children who are virtuous and contribute positively to the world.
2. Dua of Maryam's (AS) Mother
The mother of Maryam (AS) showed her devotion through her prayer for her child's protection:
"Inni u'idhuha bika wa dhurriyataha min ash-shaytani r-rajim."
Which translates to:
"And I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from Satan, the accursed." (Qur'an 3:36).
This dua is a shield, a loving guard from a mother to her unborn child, invoking divine safeguarding from all that is harmful.
3. Dua of Prophet Zakariyyah (AS)
Prophet Zakariyyah's (AS) supplication for offspring is a testament to the power of prayer:
"Rabbi hab li min ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah, innaka samee'u ad-dua'."
It means:
"Lord, from Your grace grant me virtuous offspring: You hear every prayer." (Qur'an 3:38).
His request reminds us that no matter our circumstances, our hopes and prayers for our future children are always heard.
