Counterfeit Crisis: Why Fake Islamic Products Put Our Community at Risk | Islam Channel

When I first walked into a London shop and saw a fake version of my Interactive Prayer Mat on the shelf, I felt a mix of sadness and shock. After years of hard work, design, and prayer, seeing my product copied so cheaply was painful.
What made it worse was that we had already warned this shop. They promised to remove the fake, but within a week, during Ramadan, it was back on sale. This wasn’t just about competition it was about safety.
Why Fake Products Are Dangerous
Trading Standards tested one of these counterfeit mats and found it was unsafe for children. The results were published on a national database. Yet, because the copy looked almost identical, families could easily mistake it for the genuine My Salah Mat. The fakes cut corners with cheap materials and no real concern for children’s learning or safety.
At My Salah Mat, every year we improve our product. Today, the mat doesn’t just guide children through salah, it also teaches them the meaning of their prayer with translations in 10 languages. This is what happens when something is made with intention — not just for profit, but for the sake of Allah.
Protecting Muslim Creators
Sadly, this issue isn’t unique to us. Many Muslim authors, inventors, and designers have seen their work copied, pirated, or exploited. My advice? Always protect your work. Register your designs. If possible, secure patents. It’s one of the strongest tools we have to fight back.
Why We Keep Going
At the end of the day, my motivation comes from Allah. I believe my rizq is already written. My aim is simply to protect families, raise awareness, and encourage shops to stop supporting fakes — because it harms not just businesses, but our whole ummah.
The genuine My Salah Mat is designed with love, care, and safety in mind. It has transformed salah for thousands of children and adults across the world.
