Why is Asr important?

Asr comes in the late afternoon, a time when many of us are caught up in work, school, or daily responsibilities. Pausing for Asr brings perspective and peace. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever prays the two cool prayers (Fajr and Asr) will enter Paradise.” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Step-by-Step Guide to Asr Prayer

Niyyah (Intention): Face the Qiblah and intend to pray Asr.
Takbir: Raise your hands and say “Allahu Akbar.”
First Rak’ah:
- Recite Surah Al-Fatihah.
- Add another Surah.
- Perform ruku (bowing) and sujood (prostration).
Second Rak’ah:
- Repeat the same steps.
- Sit for tashahhud at the end.
Third Rak’ah:
- Recite Surah Al-Fatihah only.
- Complete ruku and sujood.
Fourth Rak’ah:
- Recite Surah Al-Fatihah only.
- End with tashahhud and salams on both sides.

All four raka’at of Asr are prayed silently.
