How One Mother and Her Son with Down Syndrome from Bradford Are Spreading the Love of Salah

A small act of kindness can create ripples far beyond what we ever imagine. Sometimes, a simple gift, a heartfelt gesture, or a moment of generosity can open doors we never even knew existed.
At My Salah Mat, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to connect with their faith—regardless of their abilities. That’s why when we heard about Shabana (Shabs) and her 15-year-old son, Eisa, we knew we had to be part of their incredible journey.
A Mother, A Son, and a Mission of Love
Eisa is a teenager with Down syndrome whose love for Salah is something truly special. Over the years, he has found joy and connection using our interactive prayer mat, helping him engage with prayer in a way that is both meaningful and accessible. But what makes this story even more beautiful is how he and his mother, Shabs, have turned their personal experience into something greater.
Together, they’ve been gifting interactive prayer mats to children with disabilities, children with additional needs—children who deserve the same joy and connection to Allah that Eisa has found.
What started as just a few donations has now become a growing movement.
From One Gift to Many—The Birth of a Movement
What began as a simple act of kindness—a mother and son gifting prayer mats to children with additional needs—has now turned into something much bigger. Shabs isn’t just donating mats; she’s leading a movement.
Through her and Eisa’s efforts, people from all over have been inspired to contribute. Donations have poured in, support keeps growing, and more children are gaining access to a tool that makes learning Salah easier and more engaging.
What started with just a few mats has now led to over 60 interactive prayer mats being distributed, giving more children the opportunity to experience the beauty of Salah in a way that works for them.
But this is just the beginning.
Shabs is paving the way for more accessibility in Islamic education, raising awareness and showing that no child should feel left out when it comes to their connection with Allah. With every donation, every shared story, and every prayer mat gifted, this movement grows stronger.
Salah is for everyone—and thanks to Shabs and Eisa, more children than ever are getting the chance to embrace it.
Keep up to date Shab and Eisa!

Maa’sha’Allah just got chatting with shabs as i have son with Downs syndrome too. Absolutely amazing woman, for what her son Eisa and she have achieved. It’s never been raised by anyone else that kids with disabilities would love to pray like other ‘normal’ kids but due to their disability they can’t. So shabs seen a need for this and took on her mission to gift every child in the UK with a disability a interactive prayer nat. I decided to jump on board to make a donation to this beautiful cause whilst the same my son got gifted a interactive prayer mat from Shabs. I pray, too, that this keeps going until every child with a disability gets a interactive prayer mats. Keep up the good work Shabs and Eisa. May Allah swt reward you n your son for your very noble efforts Ameen. Nahreen Mohammed
